The History of Weaver Dentistry
In the late 1800s, Dr. Russell Sherrill began cultivating a practice built on high moral standards and a high level of patient care that our patients still enjoy to this day! Dr. Sherrill first opened his doors in downtown Raleigh on Fayetteville Street in the old Banking & Trust Company Building.
In 1912, Dr. Sherrill was elected president of the North Carolina Dental Society, one of the highest honors in the field of dentistry. After many successful years of serving the city, Dr. Sherrill passed away from tuberculosis in 1914.
After Dr. Sherrill became ill, he made the decision to bring in a partner to whom he could entrust his practice and his patients. That trusted colleague was Henry O. Linerberger, Sr. who began practicing 1915. Dr. Lineberger’s practice thrived for a couple years until he made the decision to serve his country in World War I.
After completing his military service, Dr. Lineberger moved his practice to the Odd Fellows Building on Hargett Street. Dr. Henry Lineberger, Sr. accomplished a great deal during his career, most notably the founding the UNC Dental School. Only five years after Dr. Lineberger returned from WWI, he established the dental school in Chapel Hill in response to the influx of young veterans who sought a career in dentistry.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Henry Lineberger, Jr. practiced dentistry and was a member of the first class to graduate from UNC’s School of Dentistry in 1954. Dr. Lineberger, Jr. joined his father’s practice and became well-known for his compassionate chairside manner and for providing the highest level of care throughout the Raleigh area. Dr. Lineberger is famous for attracting lifelong patients who still actually miss their annual check-ups with him to this day, a feat hard to achieve in the dental field!
During the 1960s, Dr. Lineberger, Jr. hired our first dental hygienist and brought in a new partner, Dr. Danny Lotz. After a successful collegiate basketball career at UNC and serving our country as a naval dentist, Dr. Lotz agreed to join Dr. Lineberger, Jr. to create a family-oriented dental practice.
Throughout their dental careers, Drs. Lineberger and Lotz both earned prestige in their professional and personal lives. Dr. Lineberger combined excellent dental care with a compassionate chairside manner that resonates with our patients and our doctors today.
In 1991, Dr. Lineberger welcomed Dr. Weaver, a fellow UNC graduate, to join his practice. Dr. Greg Weaver gained the trust and love of Dr. Lineberger’s lifelong patients and staff, and made a seamless transition into Weaver Dentistry. His passion for dentistry and his patients has earned Dr. Weaver a prestigious reputation in the Raleigh area.
Dr. Weaver is a vested member of the dental community, and holds memberships with the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, American Academy of General Dentistry, and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Along with dentistry, Dr. Weaver enjoys spending time with his wife Susan, their two children, and his church family at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
